Common Data Model

The data connection gap

Penske runs into a common hurdle as their clients' tech needs evolve: more and more of their customers want to connect their own third-party software, telematics tools, and specialised fleet hardware directly into the Penske platform.

Penske knows there's a big opportunity here to offer a broader suite of tools that keeps clients engaged, but they don't quite have the backend data architecture set up to build and support all those connections in-house.

It puts them in a bit of a tough spot. Without a simple way to pull all these different datasets together, it’s harder to give customers the smooth, fully connected experience they’re looking for across their day-to-day operations.

Cleaning up fuel data for future innovation

To solve this challenge, Fleetyr was brought on to collaborate directly with Penske and their consultancy team on a common data model pilot project.

Fleetyr built an automated pipeline that continuously transforms raw, fragmented fuel and energy transaction records into a structured, highly refined dataset. Designed to sit securely within Penske’s own cloud environment, this centralised data engine seamlessly ingests and normalises incoming data streams from a wide variety of third-party fuel providers and enterprise clients.

By establishing this reliable, standardised foundation, the common data model eliminates operational silos and reduces data complexity. It empowers Penske’s product and engineering teams to rapidly roll out new data-driven features for their clients, while simultaneously creating a clean, scalable framework to explore advanced analytics and artificial intelligence opportunities.
