Benchmarking fleet data that is technology agnostic

For years, IPWEA Fleet has actively pursued a solution that would empower its members to leverage industry-wide benchmarks, ultimately driving greater productivity and efficiency for fleet and equipment managers. The ability to compare performance metrics against industry standards has long been recognised as a critical tool for optimisation, yet achieving this goal has historically been hindered by severe technical roadblocks.

The primary obstacle has always been the immense complexity of aggregating, cleansing, and standardising massive volumes of data generated by a disparate network of software and hardware providers.

Because every member organisation utilises different telematics systems, fuel cards, and maintenance platforms, creating a unified framework was virtually impossible. This persistent data fragmentation continually placed this world-first benchmarking solution frustratingly out of reach, leaving managers without the centralised insights needed to truly revolutionise their operations.

A world-first fleet benchmarking ecosystem

To bridge this data gap, Fleetyr successfully ingested complex operational datasets from 28 prominent Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) councils, government departments, and various disparate telematics and fuel technology providers.

Through rigorous aggregation and normalisation processes, Fleetyr transformed this fragmented data into a cohesive benchmarking matrix. For the first time, participating members can clearly analyse how their operations stack up against peer organisations across critical vectors like asset utilisation, driver behaviour, and fuel efficiency.

These granular benchmarks offer unprecedented visibility, scaling seamlessly from whole-of-fleet macro overviews down to the performance of individual vehicles.

The real-world impact of this collaborative benchmarking initiative was immediate and measurable, delivering substantial operational and financial returns, including:

  • Optimised Fleet Utilisation: Participants realised a 12% improvement in overall asset utilisation over a six-month period. For the average participant, this optimisation translates to over $1 million in annualised capital and operational savings per fleet.

  • Enhanced Driver Safety & Compliance: By identifying trends and fostering friendly peer competition, participating fleets achieved a 9% reduction in high-risk driving events, specifically targeting speeding infractions and harsh braking or acceleration incidents.

  • Reduced Unauthorised Asset Usage: Through tighter monitoring, participants successfully decreased out-of-hours driving by 7%. This reduction effectively mitigated unauthorised vehicle use and yielded an average cost savings of $734 per asset annually in reduced fuel, maintenance, and wear.
